I don’t think I am using facebook right. I mean, you’re just supposed to read other people’s statuses, right? And comment on them? I don’t know how I am supposed to keep up with all of this status updating and pictures and all of that stuff. I try. And other people have tons of comments on their statuses. Maybe mine is invisible? I try to comment on others’ stuff. I try to look at the pictures, but I just have more important things to do than stare at facebook all day. Everyday. Like, knit stuff. There are occasions where I get sucked in for an hour or so. But, I feel like facebook is just a tool to make me feel inadequate about my life. I feel that way just fine without facebook’s help. I feel like I am missing something with facebook. Like, I haven’t found the magic key that is going to make me enjoy keeping up with it like most people I know. ‘sigh’

I so know what you mean! I use facebook too and I just kind of feel like I must be doing it wrong, nothing ever happens there for me. If I didn’t have a few friends who used the events feature regularly instead of just talking about things, I’m not sure I’d be on it at all.

I used to keep Facebook up all the time, so I was up to date with everything my friends were saying. Now? I check in a couple times a week. And yes, it can be overwhelming. So, I look at what I can. Comment on what moves me. And don’t get too caught up in what I’m missing. If it’s really that important, those people will be contacting me directly.

I have my Facebook events tied to my Blackberry through FB mobile (don’t you have it on your iPhone?)… so I can get an email/notification & accept/decline an invite on the phone instead of actually having to go to the site. Then it updates my phone’s calendar & sets a reminder automatically, so I remember the event :)

I do have it sent to my iPhone, but I don’t have time to check every facebook message that it pushed notificationed through. And, honestly, I don’t really care to spend hours a day on facebook. Maybe that is how I am supposed to be using facebook and what I am doing wrong.

You can manage which applications or “features” send you alerts, so then you’d only get the ones you really want to see.

I put down any technology when I realize I’m more focused on it than the people, view, art in front of me. At this point I know whose status update will be interesting/funny and whose won’t, so I mostly skim.

Skim…good call. Think I should’ve thought about that by now.

Tiny Tyrant
I bounced over from Knit and Tonic.
LOVE Chico.
Feel free to add me on FB (I’m tinytyrant there too) since I love hearing about knitting stuff and dogs.
I’ll be back. This looks like a great read.

Twitter is the new time suck. Link it to Facebook (like I do) and you will officially have no life. The good thing is you can kind of read, comment, and knit at the same time.

Hmmm…I love Twitter. It’s not as much as a time suck for me anymore. It definitely used to be though.
